1973

The Palmas winery named "Arcone" was established in the early 1970s. The first vineyard was planted by Gabriele's father, lawyer Giuseppe Palmas, in 1973, with varieties: Vermentino, Barbera, Pascale, Monica.

1996

Giuseppe was able to pass on his passion for the wine world to his son Gabriele, who shared the project with him. They created the first winery in Sassari in 1996. The first bottling involved about 20,000 total bottles, from San Giovese and Cannonau grapes for the red "Arcone Igp Isola dei Nuraghi" and Vermentino for the white DOC "Montepedrosu."

1999

The two labels and the territory name "Arcone" gave the beginnings to the project, which was immediately appreciated by wine critics. The entry in the Gambero Rosso 1999 guide sealed this moment.

2004

When his father passed away Gabriele devoted himself to the restructuring of the vineyards together with Simona, his wife. Having an 'estate of more than fifty hectares at their disposal, they identified, for the new plantings, the hilly soils of the estate, which thanks to the good exposure and ventilation would ensure the high quality of the new wines.

2006

The vineyards, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and interspersed with cypress and olive trees, represented the ideal habitat. Gabriele and Simona experimented with new varieties, flanking the indigenous Cannonau and Vermentino with international varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The initial choice was to vinify the individual types in purity and with exclusive aging in steel, in order to evaluate the expression of the grape variety in that territory.

2008

The desire to communicate simplicity and recognizability suggested them to study a label with, on the front, only the producer's name and two symbols of territoriality: the tower aragonese (emblem of the city of Sassari) and a Sardinian jewel (sa buttonera) declined in the various colors to distinguish the different wines: Vermentino di Sardegna DOP, Cannonau di Sardegna DOP, Cabernet Alghero DOP, Syrah Igp Isola dei Nuraghi. On the back label, the name of the grape variety.

2016

In August, the construction of the new winery was completed. During the same period, the new Vermentino di Sardegna DOP label, "Solotredici," was also born.

2017

Solotredici Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 2016 is awarded the gold medal at the 1st National Wine Competition "Vermentino".

2019

Expansion of vineyards with an additional two hectares of Vermentino and reaching about 15 hectares of total vineyard area.

2021

Birth of the second Gabriele Palmas white wine "Solopalmas" igp Isola dei nuraghi, made from a blend of Vermentino and Nasco grapes.

2023

Alghero Cabernet Riserva Palmas 2014 gets top recognition, the four screws, in the tenth edition of Vitae, the Wine Guide, of the Italian Sommelier Association.

2024

For the second year in a row, Solopalmas wins the golden award at the Merano Wine festival, rewarding Gabriele's choice in cultivating this grape variety, semi-aromatic, in the Sassari Nurra. The Solotredici 2023 receives the red award and keeps in line with previous vintages. The Syrah 2021 receives the red award confirming the quality standard as well as the choice to vinify wines made from international grape varieties that in this area best express the excellence of the Sardinian terroir.

Today

As of today, the winery can count on 15 hectares of vineyards in production, about ten dedicated to the indigenous Vermentino, Nasco, Cannonau and Cagnulari and the remainder dedicated to valuable plantings of international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.

Respect for and preservation of the environment is part of Gabriele Palmas' production philosophy. The winery is located in the center of the property and overlooks the vine-covered hillsides, allowing the manually harvested grapes to be vinified immediately.

There are currently 6 labels on the market: Vermentino di Sardegna DOP Solotredici; IGP Isola dei Nuraghi Solopalmas; Cannonau di Sardegna DOP; Alghero Cabernet DOP; Alghero Cabernet DOP Riserva; and Syrah IGP Isola dei Nuraghi.

About thirty thousand bottles are produced annually and marketed exclusively in Ho.Re.Ca. channels in Italy and abroad.
